Work Packages

Lead Beneficiary: DANAOS
Duration: M1 - M48

WP1 ensures that the project is coordinated and managed in an efficient and effective way and that the required quality of the work and results are guaranteed. The management concept complies with all requirements and provides a good controlling mechanism and fast response time to management requests and conflict resolution. Since quality of the work and results are of paramount importance for cooperative projects, this work package is also dedicated to ensuring that proper quality standards are met within the project and included in the management reports to the Commission. Through regular internal and occasional external reviews, the quality of the results is ensured. This includes reviews of important deliverables through external reviewers, and regular self-assessments within the project team.
Deliverables
D1.1. First year progress report including initial exploitation, dissemination and training plans (Lead: DANAOS; Due: M12; R; PU)
D1.2. Mid-term project meeting (Lead: DANAOS; Due: M14; OTHER; PU)
D1.3. Third year progress report (Lead: DANAOS; Due: M36; R; PU)
Lead Beneficiary: HUA
Duration: M1 – M18

The main objective of WP2 is to set the framework for the envisioned SmartShip platform: the scenarios definition and bidirectional requirement analysis for the ICT-based of marine vessels will be carried out, focusing on (i) requirements from the maritime point of view and (ii) requirements for the vessel management framework from the sustainable, CEaware ICT point of view.
Deliverables
D2.1. SmartShip requirements analysis, scenarios and KPIs definition (Lead: HUA; Due: M9; R; PU)
Lead Beneficiary: ENPC
Duration: M10 – M24

The fundamental objective of WP3 is the specification of the SmartShip functional architecture, in terms of translation of the requirements into functions, grouping of functions into functional blocks and specification of interfaces between blocks, so as to build the functional architecture. Moreover, Circular Economy principles will be incorporated on the architecture within this WP.
Deliverables
D3.1. SmartShip circular economy-based functional architecture (Lead: ENPC; Due: M24; R; PU)
Lead Beneficiary: ITML
Duration: M10 – M36

The objective of WP4 is to foster knowledge exchange between academic and non-academic experts in the fields of IoT and Advanced Data analytics to be applied in the maritime filed. Within WP beneficiaries will design and develop the Smartship Advanced data analytics module, that will (i) aggregate different types of data through sensing devices structuring the IoT framework and (ii) provide real-time analytics to be exploited towards decision support and optimization in WP5.
Deliverables
D4.1. IoT applied tools and technologies and data analytics module (Lead: ITML; Due: M36; DEMONSTRATOR; CO)
Lead Beneficiary: BLS
Duration: M10 – M36

The main objective of WP5 is to foster knowledge exchange between academic and non-academic experts in the fields of Decision support and optimization in terms of energy efficiency and emissions control in the maritime filed. Moreover, within WP beneficiaries will design and develop a Decision Support module that will (i) exploit the analysed data from the data analytics module; (ii) manage the operation of the whole IoT environment and (iii) run optimization algorithms to provide suggestions related to the operations of the vessel’s engines.
Deliverables
D5.1. Decision support module and multi-layer optimization tools and technologies (Lead: BLS; Due: M36; DEMONSTRATOR; PU)
Lead Beneficiary: EPS
Duration: M25 – M48

The major objective of WP6 is the integration and implementation of the SmartShip framework binding the maritime world with the ICT-oriented one towards a multi-layer optimization tool. To this end, the envisioned framework will be implemented aimed at combining (i) environmental issues and requirements, (ii) additional complementary requirements inserted by different stakeholders in the maritime field and (iii) challenges from off-the-edge technologies regarding advanced data analytics, decision support systems and optimization algorithms. Moreover, this WP aims at demonstrating the efficiency of the SmartShip framework through a pilot, based on the cooperation of (i) DANAOS, who will contribute with its fleet and expertise in the vessel management systems evaluation and (ii) the main technology providers (EPS, ITML, BLS) that have expertise in providing tools and services in the maritime sector.
Deliverables
D6.1. Integrated SmartShip framework (Lead: EPS; Due: M42; DEMONSTRATOR; PU)
D6.2. Report on final pilot design and implementation (Lead: DANAOS; Due: M48; DEMONSTRATOR; PU)
Lead Beneficiary: ENPC
Duration: M1 – M48

WP7 is responsible for the coordination, management and execution of the dissemination, exploitation and training activities for efficient binding of maritime industry with ICT-oriented industrial and research beneficiaries. It manages the basic networking and knowledge–sharing activities of SmartShip, being thus the most critical and demanding WP of the project.
Deliverables
D7.1. Data Management Plan (Lead: ENPC; Due: M6; ORDP; CO)
D7.2. Overall SmartShip framework demonstration/exhibition activity (Lead: ENPC; Due: M48; DEMONSTRATOR; PU)
